Aug 31, 2011 (newstodate): The battle for Finnish/Baltic air connections take a further step in 2012 as Estonian Air adds flights on a new route from Tallinn.
Effective from March 25, 2012, the carrier will launch seven weekly flights on a new route between Tallinn, Estonia, and Jyvaskyla, 270 km north of Helsinki and a center of educational institutions, IT industries, energy and paper industries.
The new route marks the first move by Estonian Air into the Finnish market where it earlier served Helsinki from Tallinn.
So far it has not been decided with aircraft type will be used on the new route, but CRJ900 aircraft may emerge as the final choice.
According to industry sources the carrier may also have plans to launch flights from Tallinn to other Finnish destinations Oulu, Turku and Vaasa.
With a 2.600m runway, Jyvaskyla Airport is today only offering flights to Helsinki, to be operated from October 2011 by the new carrier Flybe Nordic.
