Aug 30, 2011 (newstodate): Danish airfreight forwarders are not overly optimistic about prospects for the second half of 2011.
-Based on opinions exchanged among forwarders at a recent meeting in the airfreight group of the Danish Freight Forwarders Association, it seems that while the performance during the first half of this year was not too bad, our expectations for the second half of the year are not overly optimistic, says John Sorensen, chairman of the airfreight group.
-Generally speaking, the airfreight export performed surprisingly well during H1, while airfreight imports stagnated. Now this far into the autumn, we are still seeing exports on a positive trend, but we will probably see this segment losing momentum, and imports are also expected to decline in the latter part of the year.
-As before, the Asian and Far East trade has been driving the business, but we see excessive capacity in the market, both sea and air, and rates are consequently dropping. It is going to be a tough year, says Mr Sorensen
