Aug 05, 2011 (newstodate): No immediate plans are on the table for reinstating the second Cathay Pacific Cargo freighter serivce at Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
The carrier launched twice-weekly Boeing 747-400F operations between Stockholm Arlanda and Hong Kong via Dubai on September 17, 2007, but the route is now served with only one weekly rotation.
-At the moment there are no plans for returning the second weekly freighter service. On one hand, Cathay Pacific Cargo would not have the aircraft to do so, and on the other hand we would also require a market response strong enough to fill up the freighters, says Magnus Glans, Cathay Pacific Cargo manager Sweden.
-We are seeing satisfactory loads in 2001, volumes are increasing but rates are volatile. We are serving the market with one weekly freighter and efficient trucking services to Frankfurt Airport that provide relatively short lead-times to many weekly freighter flights where we hold fixed allotments. In the current situation this fully meets demands in the market.
-All Cathay Pacific Cargo freighter flights from Europe are fully booked. To take one more aircraft out of this system to route it to Stockholm instead would require both loads high enough to sustain the service and rates that would be competitive against European levels. I doubt if this would be feasible, says Mr Glans.
