Aug 15, 2011 (newstodate): The Bulgarian cabinet has decided to move forward with plans for a new civilian airport.
Formerly a Bulgarian Air Force base on the coast of the Black Sea, Balchik Airport is to be turned into a civilian airport, and the cabinet has decided to transfer the AFB to a state-owned joint stock company under formation.
At the same time, state funds have been allocated to construction of passenger facilities and airport infrastructure to allow for handling of commercial aircraft from next summer.
