Aug 23, 2011 (newstodate): Effective from September 1, 2011, the Icelandic carrier Bluebird Cargo will take over the carriage of Lufthansa Cargo shipments to and from Iceland.
Lufthansa Cargo added Iceland as a new market in the Nordic region from June 13, 2011, carrying belly-hold cargo in Lufthansa's passenger aircraft between Keflavik and Dusseldorf and Hamburg with CRJ900 and Boeing 737 aircraft, respectively, and Austrian Airlines' weekly flight to Vienna with Boeing 737 aircraft.
As all these flights have been seasonal only, Bluebird Cargo has been contracted to carry Lufthansa Cargo shipments on its flights between Keflavik and Cologne.
From the start, Bluebird Cargo has been serving as sales agent for Lufthansa Cargo in the Icelandic market, while Airport Associates provided the cargo handling at Keflavik Airport.
Responsible for the Icelandic market is Michael Schoop, Lufthansa Cargo Regional Manager Denmark & Iceland.
