Aug 19, 2011 (newstodate): Russia's Volga-Dnepr Group has signed up with the Antonov Design Bureau for a major upgrading of the AN-124 heavy-lift freighter aircraft.
The contract calls for modernization of the carrier's fleet of 10 AN-124 aircraft, which will increase the aircraft's cargo capacity from currently 120 to 150 tonnes, and boost the maximum range from 4,800 to 5,000 km, while the maximum take-off weight will rise from 392 to 402 tonnes.
Included in the modernization program will be new engines and digitalization of the cockpit.
