Jul 29, 2011 (newstodate): The days of Danish ownership of Cimber Sterling are over.
At today's extraordinary shareholders meeting, an overwhelming majority voted for accepting the offer from Mansvell's Ukrainean owner Igor Kolomoyski to buy 70 percent of shares in Cimber Sterling, injecting 165 mio Danish Kroner into the debt-ridden carrier that has flown unto the brink of bankruptcy.
It now remains to be seen if, or when, Cimber Sterling will be merged with Mansvell's other Scandinavian acquisition, Swedish Skyways to become part of a new North European, or Nordic airline.
More Mansvell acquisitions may be forthcoming as Igor Kolomoyski was recently visiting Latvia's prime minister in Riga.
It was officially claimed that their talks did not touch on aviation-related issues, but it is known that airBaltic needs a restructuring of its ownership, allowing new investors to bring in fresh capital to finance the airline's need for new aircraft.
