Jul 29, 2011 (newstodate): The time frame for SAS Cargo's move of its cargo terminal handling operation at Copenhagen Airport is still not settled.
-The process depends on the approval by the Danish authority, Trafikstyrelsen, of the new airside/landside security demarcation lines at the facility, and we are not a party to this procedure that is handled by Copenhagen Airport as the landowner who is to rent the premises to us, says Leif Rasmussen, SAS Cargo CEO.
Trafikstyrelsen has not, however, yet received any formal application from Copenhagen Airport for approval of a cargo terminal in the building close to the passenger terminal area that was formerly housing SAS Cargo's handling facility.
-Officially, we are not aware of any plan by Copenhagen Airport concerning re-opening the former SAS Cargo Terminal as a new cargo handling facility. And with the new EU security requirements we will have to approve not only the airside/landside demarcation lines, but also the building's infrastructure itself as to security standards as the existing building does not live up to today's requirements, says Kjeld Zlov, Danish Transport Authority Trafikstyrelsen's head of aviation security.
-We hold regular meetings with Copenhagen Airport where plans for future projects are presented, to allow for prioritizing of project approval processes.
-There are usually some 30-40 cases on the table, but so far a project for a "new" SAS Cargo handling terminal at the former site of SAS Cargo North has not been presented to us, says Mr Zlov.
Despite repeated efforts, newstodate has not been able to get into contact with Jonnie Muller, Copenhagen Airport Head of Security, for a comment on the issues.
