Jul 01, 2011 (newstodate): The new JV in Finland, Flybe Nordic will not restrict its operations to the Finnish market.
The new carrier will expand into Sweden, Denmark, Estonia and Latvia, offering low-cost flights connecting to Finnair's European and, notably, Asian route network.
The plan is to announce details in mid-August of an extensive new route network to be operated from the start of the winter season, Sunday October 30, 2011.
This will supplement the key lifeline routes from the Finnish regions currently operated by Finncomm.
With this move, Finnair is seeking ways to fight-off the extensive inroads into the Finnish market by SAS and its Finnish subsidiary Blue1, and the Latvian carrier airBaltic.
Behind the new JV are Finnair and the UK-based carrier Flybe, with 40 and 60 percent of the stake, respectively.
