Jul 26, 2011 (newstodate): September 8, 2011, will see the opening of the new passenger terminal at Macedonia's Skopje Alexander The Great Airport.
The new facility is a result of the construction work managed by the airport's new operator, Turkish company TAV, and is ten times larger than the existing passenger terminal as well as adding six air bridges, 23 check-in desks and 15 passport control counters to the airport.
TAV is also lengthening the airport's runway from 2,500 to 3,000 m allowing for handling of large passenger aircraft.
Other projects are still in the making, including a new cargo terminal.
In September 2008, TAV Macedonia DOOEL Skopje and the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Macedonia signed the 20-year contract for concession and operation of Skopje Alexander the Great Airport, Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport, and the construction of the New Cargo Airport in Shtip.
