Jul 25, 2011 (newstodate): Lithuania's Vilnius Airport may be seeking a role as a transfer point for traffic between China and a number of European airports.
Behind the efforts is a Lithuanian airline project, Lithuanian Express, headed by Icelandic national Thorsteinn Gudnason, Lithuania Express Project manager, and himself a member of the group of potential investors in the carrier.
A delegation from a Chinese company is currently visiting Lithuania for negotiations with Lithuanian Express as well as Lithuanian authorities.
Sources say plans include flights from China via Lithuania to European airports including Keflavik, Dublin, Paris and Barcelona.
Lithuanian Express was first heard of in 2009 with plans to launch operations from Vilnius by early 2010, already, to destinations including Berlin, Amsterdam and Copenhagen, but changed market conditions eventually kept ambitions on hold.
