Jul 27, 2011 (newstodate): Lithuania's Kaunas Airport saw its cargo volumes dipping in June 2011, reflecting the lower demand during the summer heat.
A total of 449 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, down 9.3 percent, y-o-y.
Of the total, 320 tonnes were cargo shipments, down from 368 tonnes in June 2010, while mail remained almost unchanged with 129 tonnes.
Effective from June 18, 2011, Lufthansa Cargo took over the so far empty weekly flight from Kaunas Airport to Frankfurt, extending to Bombay, India, while the service by Jade Air Cargo from Shanghai to Kaunas with a Boeing 747-400 freighter prompted by Hoptrans and managed by Agility continues to bring in ex-China exports for distribution to markets in Central Europe.
