Jul 01, 2011 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo is doing well on the carrier's route between Helsinki and Delhi, India.
In May 2011, Finnair Cargo carried a total of 558 tonnes of cargo on the route, including 176 tonnes of exports from Finland and 382 tonnes of exports from Delhi.
For most other European carriers operating into Delhi, exports from Delhi are less than import volumes into Delhi.
The largest European operator at Delhi Airport was British Airways with 2,813 tonnes, 1,099 of which was Indian exports, followed by Lufthansa Cargo with 1,710 tonnes, 621 of which was Indian exports, and Swiss World Cargo with 976 tonnes, 509 tonnes of which was Indian exports.
Emirates SkyCargo has a strong grip on the Indian market and lifted 2,487 tonnes of cargo between Dubai and Delhi, 1,726 tonnes of which was Indian exports, primarily perishables that alone accounted for 898 tonnes om May 2011.
Many of Finnair's competitors operate freighters into the Indian market alongside their passenger services, and Bombay or Delhi might become one of the new destinations to be opened when the Nordic Global Airlines takes to the air from this autumn, as announced.
