Jun 07, 2011 (newstodate): The news of Airbus' cancellation of the A320 P2F program took the prospective launch operator, West Atlantic by surprise and now forces the carrier to re-think its entire fleet strategy.
-West Atlantic certainly has some serious issues to solve and will bring the whole strategy back to the think-tank, says Malcolm Ginsberg, aviation consultant.
-West Atlantic did see the converted A320 freighter as a key to opening new windows of opportunity, and with the cancellation of the program the company will now have to re-think its strategy and consider whether to go wide-body or narrow-body in the future fleet planning.
-Basic to the considerations will be a close dialogue with the prospective customers behind the now-aborted A320 freighter services to ascertain their needs and expectations, so it is really all back to square-one right now.
-West Atlantic still operates the world's largest ATP freighter fleet with 43 aircraft, and these aircraft can fly at least till the end of the decade, says Mr Ginsberg.
