Jun 30, 2011 (newstodate): The Ukrainean carrier Aerosvit is strengthening its focus on transit traffic via its home base at Kiev Borispol Airport.
For the first five months of this year, the proportion of transit passengers via Kiev has risen to 45 percent, compared to 35 percent in the same period in 2010.
Capitalizing on the implementation by Kiev Borispol Airport of new transit technologies, Aerosvit now expects to increase the proportion of transit passengers through the airport to 50 percent in 2011, compared to 37 percent in 2010.
On some of the airline's routes, including flights between Kiev and Budapest, Hamburg, Vilnius, Stockholm and St Petersburg, the proportion of transit passengers have reached as high as 70 percent.
