Jun 27, 2011 (newstodate): Serbia will see the opening of a new commercial airport at Batajnica.
The existing facilities at Batajnica are used by the Serb military as an air force base, but ownership of the airport will transferred to the city of Batajnica before 2016 when the airport will be opened for commercial services, with a focus on low-cost traffic.
The airport has two operative runways at 2,438 and 2,502 m, respectively, and besides the low-cost traffic it is also targeting the cargo industry as well as serving as an alternate airport to Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.
