Jun 30, 2011 (newstodate): No complaints from SAS Cargo in the Finnish market concerning the performance so far into 2011.
-Volumes during H1 in 2011 have been above levels in 2010 and 2009, so it seems that 2011 is going to be a rather good year, says Ilkka Turku, SAS Cargo manager Finland.
-Our most important market remains North America, and even if we are seeing strong competition in Finland from Finnair Cargo and American Airlines we have still managed to develop satisfactorily.
-The Finnish market is marked by strong loyalty to the national carrier, but generally most shippers and forwarders prefer to lean on not just one provider but rather work with two or three carriers to secure their interests.
-Another fact benefiting us is that most of our customers prefer longer-term agreements rather than shopping for dimes. This also means that even if rates are decreasing in general, we have maintained fair rate levels with our customers.
-Looking slightly ahead we also pin high hopes on the return by SAS to Shanghai from 2012. Shanghai used to be a very important destinations for us before, so we are convinced that this new route will bring fresh business to us, says Mr Turku.
