Jun 28, 2011 (newstodate): Effective from 2012, Russia will ban flights with Soviet-built aircraft types Tu-134, An-24 and Yak-40 that are not equipped with GPWS.
The decision reflects recent accidents with these aircraft types, anbd starting from January 1, 2012 they will be banned from operations unless updated with these systems.
There are currently an estimated 179 aircraft of these types in commercial service, only 90 of which will meet the new requirement.
