Jun 15, 2011 (newstodate): Effective from June 18, 2011, Lufthansa Cargo will bring further momentum to the existing Saturday freighter operations at Lithuania's Kaunas Airport.
The current weekly service by Jade Air Cargo from Shanghai to Kaunas with a Boeing 747-400 freighter prompted by Hoptrans and managed by Agility will continue - but Lufthansa Cargo will now take over the flight from Kaunas Airport to Frankfurt, extending to Bombay, India.
The new Lufthansa Cargo service from Kaunas will be connected to Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius via trucking services including the ferry between Helsinki and Tallinn.
The Lufthansa Cargo freighter service will offer Monday morning delivery from Kaunas and Frankfurt to consignees in the Indian market, but in the start-up phase only td.PRO shipments will be accepted.
At a later stage oversized cargo, BIGs, dangerous goods and other special cargo will be added.
All shipments delivered for uplift from Kaunas must also be SPX, with security checks to be performed at either Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga or Vilnius.
