Jun 14, 2011 (newstodate): A future for the Latvian carrier? No doubt - but maybe with new owners.
The successful carrier has reportedly caught the eyes of the Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines - China's largest privately-owned air transport company and the fourth-largest airline in terms of fleet size.
At least that was revealed on a Latvian TV station by the country's minister of transportation.
Hainan Airlines will reportedly go for the acquisition of 48 percent of the stake in airBaltic, with 4.7 percent held by the Latvian state and the remaining 47.3 percent held by Baltic Aviation Systems, owned by the carrier's president and CEO Bertolt Flick.
So far the information has not been commented upon by airBaltic.
