Jun 09, 2011 (newstodate): Air cargo volumes are rising fast again at Lithuania's Kaunas Airport.
In May, the airport handled a total of 511 tonnes of air cargo, an increase by 49 percent, y-o-y.
Of the total, cargo shipments were 372 tonnes, rising 24 percent over last year, while another 139 tonnes were mail shipments, increasing only 13 percent, y-o-y.
During January-May 2011, total air cargo volumes at Kaunas Airport were 1,409 tonnes, almost unchanged against 2010.
At Kaunas Airport the cargo traffic is generated by one operator only - the freighter service with import shipments from Shanghai to Kaunas for distribution on a European trucking network.
The service was suspended from before Christmas 2010 till after the Chinese New Year, only to start again from April 2, 2011, with a weekly Jade Cargo Boeing 474-400F flight.
