Jun 23, 2011 (newstodate): In its latest market forecast, Boeing sees the industry to require 1,760 new freighters during the next 20 years, bringing the total to 3,500 freighter aircraft.
Of these 1,760 new freighters required, 970 units will be new aircraft while the bulk of the demand will be met by converted aircraft, 1,990 units.
Of the 970 new freighters, 690 units will be large aircraft with 80+ tonnes capacity, while the remaining 280 freighters will have a capacity between 40 and 80 tonnes.
Boeing does not see a market for new freighters with capacity below 40 tonnes, leaving this market to be covered by converted passengers aircraft where Boeing sees some 1,240 units to emerge during the period.
The forecast is based on the assumption of an average 5.6 percent annual growth in the global airfreight market during 2011-2030.
