June 01, 2011 (newstodate): As widely expected, Estonian Air has named Tero Taskila new CEO and President of Estonian Air as of June 1, 2011.
Mr Taskila succeeds Andrus Aljas who took over the position, first on an interim basis from August 22, 2007 and later confirmed on April 29, 2008.
Tero Taskila, a Finnish national, comes from a recent position since April 2009 as Chief Commercial Officer with the Latvian carrier airBaltic and earlier served with Qatar Air and Gulf Air.
Mr Taskila will be challenged with formulating a new strategy of growth for Estonian Air operating in a highly competitive environment in the Baltic region, where airBaltic has successfully built up Riga Airport as a leading transfer hub while Finnair is also attracting much traffic from Estonia due to the immediate proximity of its hub at Helsinki.
