Jun 14, 2011 (newstodate): The Danish airfreight market is significantly different from those in the other Nordic countries.
-First of all, Denmark has no large-scale exporting companies, but rather a large number of small and medium-size companies representing a wide variety of airfreight commodities, says Alexander Kohnen, Lufthansa Cargo Director for the Nordic and Baltic countries.
-Forwarders in Denmark are also generating more consolidations - and there is an inconceivable large provision of belly capacity in the market due to the hub strategy of SAS and the position in the region of Copenhagen Airport. So competition is very strong and has a direct bearing on the airfreight rates.
-We see a moderate development in the Danish market - no recession, but indeed a rather slow trend.
-Anyhow, Lufthansa Cargo is doing well in the Danish market, ranking as number three in April with a 10.5 share of the volumes, after KLM at the #1 position with 11.5 and SAS with 11.4 percent, respectively, says Mr Kohnen.
