Jun 21, 2011 (newstodate): The Bulgarian government is struggling to privatize several formerly military airports, including Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport.
But the market response to the tenders has so far been extremely limited.
Thus, the state has now prolonged the tender period for Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport as no bidders have so far emerged in the second tender attempt, slated to close by October 31, 2011.
Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport, with a 2,450m runway in need of renovation, needs also a new passenger terminal and ILS equipment in order to serve a purpose for either regional or cargo operations.
The earlier attempt to find foreign investors and operators of the airport in 2007 failed.
Other former military airports to be sold are Dobrich, Uzundjovo, Stara Zagora and part of the Krumovo AFB.
