Jun 08, 2011 (newstodate): Airport handling in Iceland is dominated by Icelandair - but competition exists, anyhow.
While Icelandair accounts for 80 percent of the airport ground handling at Keflavik Airport, an alternative is represented by Airport Associates, Iceland's only independent ground handling service company.
-We are the junior player at Keflavik Airport but still our airline customer portfolio includes important carriers like British Airways, Cargolux, UPS, Air Berlin, German Wings, Bluebird Cargo, Fly Niki, First Choice Airways, Primera Air, Baseops Europe, Avcon, Spanair, MNG Airlines, Volga-Dnepr, AirBridgeCargo, ABX Air, and, from June this year, Delta Air Lines with its new seasonal service, says Sigthor Skulason, Airport Associates managing director.
-We provide a full handling services package including also cargo, and our facilities include an own cargo terminal with warehousing facilities.
-Our latest new client will be Lufthansa Cargo that will start operations here from June 12, 2011. We are proud to have been selected by this company, and hopes are of course that we may also in the future take over aircraft and passenger handling of Lufthansa, now provided by Icelandair, says Mr Skulason.
Airport Associates employs a total of 80 staff at Keflavik Airport.
