Jun 16, 2011 (newstodate): Based at Tallinn Airport, Air Maintenance Estonia is now to start the realization of long-standing plans for expansion.
Estonia's Tallinn Airport and the country's largest construciton company Merko have signed a design-and-build contract for the construction of a new hangar for aircraft maintenance at the Tallinn Airport.
-The detailed design work will start now, and we will break ground in September 2011, marking the start of the construction process, says Lars-Olof Bolinder, AME managing director.
-The new hangar will cover a total of 14,000 sq m including two maintenance bays, back shops, offices and facilities, and the bays will be designed to allow for heavy maintenance work on both Airbus and Boeing aircraft. Plans are that the new hangar will be ready by September 2012.
-The new hangars will complement the existing hangar with one bay for heavy maintenance as well as facilities for line maintenance.
-In addition we are also planning the construction of a third hangar to be used for aircraft painting. This facility is expected to become operational within six to 12 months after the inauguration of the new maintenance hangar.
-The project for the paint shop is a cooperation with a European partner within this industry, and I expect positive spin-offs between aircraft maintenance and painting, says Mr Bolinder.
