May 26, 2011 (newstodate): Russia's Ulan Ude Mukhino Airport has now found a new owner, taking over from the Austrian investment company Meinl that acquired the airport in September 2007 but has since pulled out of airport investments.
The new owner is Metropol - a consortium of Russian companies that will now invest in a face-lift of the airport's infrastructure and passenger facilities while leaving major project till a later date.
The airport at Lake Baikal handled 167,126 passengers in 2010, in addition to handling of 1,600 tonnes of cargo, a growth by 18 and 32 percent, respectively, over the preceding year.
Earlier plans by Meinl included the construction of a new runway, extension of the current 3,000 m runway, and new passenger facilities to increase the capacity to handling of one mio passengers.
