May 26, 2011 (newstodate): Russia's VIM Avia is planning for a major expansion of its aircraft fleet as part of a fresh strategy for growth.
In the plans is the acquisition of 15 Boeing 717 aircraft, and as was the case when VIM Avia introduced the Boeing 757-200 in the Russian scene, VIM Avia will also become the first, and probably only, Russian carrier to operate this aircraft type.
The carrier has trained cabin and cockpit crews for the new aircraft, but no details on from where or when the aircraft will be delivered are yet available.
The world's largest operator of the Boeing 717 aircraft is American Airlines that has 86 units in its fleet.
In the meantime, the carrier has signed a five-year contract with Lufthansa Systems for implementation of the ProfitLine/Yield Rembrandt revenue management solution that will boost the airline's profitability by comprising all core processes of revenue management from data loading and demand forecasting to optimizing availabilities, while also including a comprehensive reporting tool.
