May 12, 2011 (newstodate): Plans are moving ahead for major infrastructure development at Estonia's Tallinn Airport.
The Estonian state has just granted more land to the airport, allowing it to go forth with plans for a runway extension by 600m to 3,670 m as well as new lighting systems and other pertinent equipment allowing for CAT II status in both directions.
Also in the plans is the construction of a new taxiway and land slots for new cargo, maintenance and commercial purposes.
The launch of the construction projects still require the final go-ahead, but planning and preparation is in full swing.
In 2011 the airport is seeing its volumes of traffic, passengers and cargo rising, and is also pinning high hopes for sustained growth as the national carrier Estonian Air is again entering a period of dynamic development.
