May 03, 2011 (newstodate): Poland's Katowice International Airport is facing an extensive construction plan, to be launched in 2012 already.
In 2012 the airport will modernize its passenger Terminal A, and work till also start on construction of a new airport and a maintenance hangar, to be finished in 2013.
In 2014-15, the airport will construct a new 3,200m runway, to be equipped to CAT II standards, leaving the existing 2,800 m runway in the role as taxiway.
2014 will see the construction of a new air cargo terminal, as well as a new airport railway station.
Finally, in 2017 the airport will see the opening of the firt phase of a new Terminal C, rounding off the first phase of the ectensive construction program.
In 2010 Katowice International Airport handled 2.4 mio passengers and 9,202 tonnes of air cargo.
