May 02, 2011 (newstodate): The Russian cargo carrier Volga-Dnepr is to set up its own feeder airline as a separate subsidiary before the end of this year.
After having first considered the acquisition of an existing carrier, or alternatively a partnership, Volga-Dnepr will instead establish a new own carrier to feed traffic to and from its own major hubs where its operates its fleet of heavy-lift AN-124 and IL-76 freighter aircraft.
Plans are to acquire up to ten Boeing 737 aircraft for conversion to freighters and operations within Russia as well as to major west European counties including Germany, France and the Netherlands.
The new airline to be set up is expected to receive its first three converted Boeing 737 aircraft before the end of 2011.
