May 16, 2011 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier is revising its strategy for Lithuania and has now inked a cooperation agreement with the Swedish carrier Skyways.
Under the agreement, airBaltic is teaming up with Skyways on the latter's routes from Vilnius, in Lithuania, to Stockholm and Berlin from June 7, 2011.
Already in effect is a cooperation comprising Skyways' domestic flights in Sweden and airBaltic's flights ti destinations in Europe, Russia, CIS and the Middle East.
Only few years back, airBaltic was building up its own network of flights from Vilnius comprising flights to Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, London, Munich, Paris, Riga, Rome, Dublin, Hamburg, Stockholm and Oslo, but has since cut down its presence and relocated its aircraft back to the hub in Riga, Latvia.
Behind the rapid declined in direct services from Vilnius by airBaltic is the build-up of low-cost traffic at Vilnius Airport by Ryanair and WIZZ Air.
