May 09, 2011 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo saw cargo volumes growing by 52.8 percent, y-o-y, to 11,123 tonnes in April 2011.
Asian volumes were up 26.3 percent to 6,464 tonnes, and European cargo was up 41 percent to 1,139 tonnes, while loads on North Atlantic flights were up 15 percent to 776 tonnes, all transported on passenger aircraft.
In addition, Finnair Cargo's freighter services generated 1,878 tonnes of cargo in April.
But comparisons with last year's April are of little value; first, the Icelandic volcano eruption caused huge problems for air traffic in April 2010, and next this year's April figures are also marred by the effects from the disasters in Japan, bringing Asian traffic demand down.
Anyhow, Finnair cargo transported 45,569 tonnes of cargo during January-April 2011, which was 41.4 percent over last year's figures, as always driving by the growth in Asian traffic - 14.2 percent to 25,346 tonnes.
