May 05, 2011 (newstodate): Airfreight volumes at Estonia's Tallinn Airport are still lagging behind levels only few years back when traffic was booming due to transfer of large ex-China shipments destined for Russia.
In April 2011, the airport handled 1,105 tonnes of cargo which was was an increase by 164.6 percent, y-o-y.
April 2010 was, however, marked by the dramatic effects from the Icelandic volcano eruption that caused air traffic to stall around the world. The airport's freight volumes thus dropped to 417 tonnes of cargo which was 41.8 percent down on the preceding year.
For January-April 2011, Tallinn Airport reports a total of 3,975 tonnes of cargo handled - down 32.1 percent, y-o-y, and in the same period in 2010 volumes were already down 19.7 percent, y-o-y, to 5,166 tonnes.
So there is still a long way to go to catch up at Tallinn Airport.
