May 13, 2011 (newstodate): Before the end of this year, the Bulgarian government plans to launch a tender for concession to manage Sofia Airport.
Both the Kuwait Development Fund and EBRD have allocated funds for the construction of a new terminal and a new runway at the airport, and the prospected concessionaire will take on the responsibility for boosting commercial revenue at the airport.
To assist the government in setting up a procedure for the tender, an external consultant will be contracted to work out a business model for the concession.
The concessionaire will obtain the rights to manage the airport for at least 30 years and build new cargo and VIP terminals, new fuel storage facilities and also to improve the overall airport infrastructure.
