May 05, 2011 (newstodate): Pilot training facilities in Russia are incapable of satisfying the need for pilots with certificated to operate Western-built aircraft.
One training institute to benefit from this is Lithuania's Baltic Aviation Academy that is now raising its capacity by adding more pilot training instructors and more simulators and other training equipment.
Thus, the Academy now employs 120 instructors and has increased its simulator capacity to training of 700 pilots a year, many of these expected to come from Russian carriers.
Baltic Aviation Academy has also arranged for cooperation with other training institutions in Europe and USA to secure enough capacity to provide training options.
In 2010, the Academy trained 148 Russian pilots, and expects to train about 500 in 2011.
Market estimates are that Russia needs some 7-800 new pilots annually certified to operate western-built aircraft.
Baltic Aviation Academy, based at Vilnius Airport, offers 34 training programs, including type rating training courses for Boeing 737 CL, Boeing 737 NG, Boeing 747, Boeing 757, Boeing 767, Saab 340/2000, Airbus A320, ATR 42-72, Embraer 135/145, Bombardier CRJ 100/200, Bombardier CRJ 700/900 aircraft, and the initial pilot training school courses.
