May 19, 2011 (newstodate): First to introduce the Sukhoi Superjet 100 in commercial service, the Armenian carrier Armavia is readying to take on its second aircraft.
The first aircraft, delivered on April 19, 2011, is now in scheduled service, and the second aircraft will follow "in the near future".
If operations with the Superjet continue to work flawlessly, the carrier is considering placing orders for more Superjets.
The second carrier to take in the Superjet 100 will be Russia's Aeroflot slated to become the largest operator of the type with orders for 30 aircraft.
Deliveries to Aeroflot have, however, also been severely delayed causing Aeroflot to threaten Sukhoi with claims and reconsideration of the future orders.
So far the Superjet 100 has fetched 170 orders, and plans are for production of 14 aircraft in 2011, 25 in 2012 and eventually up to 60-70 aircraft annually thereafter.
