Apr 01, 2011 (newstodate): With the opening of new traffic at Malmoe Airport, in southern-most Sweden, from July, 2011, Ryanair has further tightened up its grip on the Swedish market.
The low-cost carrier entered the Swedish market in 1997, with a route from London to Stockholm Skavsta, and has since added flights at Gothenburg, Karlstad, Skellefteaa, Vasteraas, Vaexjoe and now also Malmoe Sturup Airport.
The announcement of the re-entry at Malmo Sturup, close to the Oeresund Bridge allowing for easy connection to Copenhagen, will probably also end aspirations by Copenhagen Airport to see Ryanair as an operator, as was otherwise hoped for.
