Apr 05, 2011 (newstodate): The Russian freighter carrier Volga Dnepr Airlines is actively engaged in efforts to overcome the sustained problems with Japan's nuclear reactors at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
On March 31, 2011, an AN-124-100 freighter from Volga Dnepr Airlines completed an urgent delivery from Stuttgart, Germany, to Japan, lifting a 60-tonnes pump with a 62-meter boom, into Tokyo Narita Airport.
The pump will enable the plant to discharge water over the edge of the reactor buildings and into the buildings from above.
In the next few days, Volga-Dnepr Airlines will deliver three more pumps to Fukushima from Stuttgart in Germany, and from Atlanta and Los Angeles in the USA, also carried on AN-124 Ruslan freighters.
