Apr 15, 2011 (newstodate): The Russian carrier VIM Avia has reportedly decided to build a fleet of Boeing 717 aircraft.
Sources say the carrier will seek up to 15 Boeing 717 aircraft, and that it is already in the market to recruit flight deck crews.
A total of 156 Boeing 717 aircraft were built, and 125 units are still operated by carriers including AirTran Airways, 86, and Hawaiian Airlines, 15 aircraft.
VIM Avia already operates 15 Boeing 757-200 aircraft and has announced intentions of acquiring Boeing 747-400 aircraft.
The Boeing 717 does not, however, share commonality with other Boeing aircraft, ruling out cross-certification of pilots.
Latest new operator of the Boeing 717 is the SAS Group's Finnish carrier, Blue1 with seven units in its fleet.
