Apr 05, 2011 (newstodate): The over-all picture of Nordic air cargo airport developments in 2010 proves that growth and size are not immediately inter-related.
Thus, by far the region's biggest cargo airport in terms of volumes, remained Denmark's Copenhagen Airport with 309,236 tonnes of cargo in 2010.
Copenhagen Airport, however, saw its volumes down in 2010, decreasing one percent, y-o-y.
Incidentally, the region's fastest-growing cargo airport in 2010 was also to be found in Denmark - Billund Airport, where volumes were up by no less than 35.4 percent, y-o-y, to 61,568 tonnes.
The region's second-largest cargo airport was Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport with 156,000 tonnes. Here, the growth was less impressive, with an increase at only 2.4 percent in 2010.
Two other Swedish airports fared better: Gothenburg Landvetter Airport, where volumes rose by 11.3 percent to 47,701 tonnes, and Malmo Sturup Airport that saw its volumes up by 21.2 percent to 30,038 tonnes in 2010.
In Norway, Oslo Gardermoen Airport experienced a negative growth in 2010, down nine percent, y-o-y, to 71,000 tonnes of cargo.
Beyond the Scandinavian circles is Finland's Helsinki Vantaa Airport reporting a strong cargo performance in 2010.
The airport handled a total of 168,486 tonnes of cargo, increasing steeply by 26 percent - the second-best growth performance in the Nordic region in 2010, driven by the success of its national carrier Finnair in the Asian traffic.
