Apr 14, 2011 (newstodate): Scoring a world's first, Denmark's Billund Airport has commissioned a cargo scanner offering new trend-setting capabilities.
Besides automatically identifying the individual colli by bar-code reading of the AWB-number, and measuring the three dimensions of shipments, the scanner also takes photos of the shipment, with all data entered into a server from where customers, including airlines and forwarders, by presenting a password can draw their data for verification and invoicing purposes as well as for handling later claims.
At the next stage, the new scanner system that is developed and manufactured by the Danish provider Scaletronic will also be directly interfacing the cargo system ELWIS, overruling the ELWIS data in case of discrepancies and thus securing accurate calculation and invoicing.
The system is legal for trade in 29 countries for invoicing according to EU's Directive 2004/22/EC on Measuring Instruments, MID, and approved under international recommendations OIML R 129 and OIML R51.
