Apr 06, 2011 (newstodate): Work is progressing on the formation of Nordic Global Airlines to be based at Helsinki Vantaa Airport, Finland, with flights to start from this autumn.
Main drivers behind the project are the US company Neff Capital with 20 percent of the stake, and Finnair with 40 percent of the shares in the company.
Other investors include a US investment partner Daken Capital with 28 percent and "other Finnish interests" with 12 percent of the shares.
At the start, the fleet will comprise the two former Finnair-operated MD-11F freighters.
In late 2010, Finnair sold the aircraft to Neff Capital Management LLC, but plans are now to lease the MD-11F aircraft to a US airline, presumably World Airlines, that will next place them on ACMI basis to the new Finnish airline, according to an industry source.
The freighters will thus be operated without pilots from Finnair.
Finnair Cargo currently operates a freighter network comprising flights from Finland to Hong Kong, Seoul and New York.
