Apr 26, 2011 (newstodate): Lithuania's Kaunas Airport is still to see a return of growth in cargo volumes after the drop in this year's Q1.
According to the airport, volumes during January-March 2011 were only 366 tonnes - a decline by 60.6 percent, y-o-y.
Behind the drop is the suspension since before Christmas 2010 of services by freighters carrying shipments from Shanghai into Kaunas for onward distribution by Hoptrans to central European destinations.
The Lithuanian company Hoptrans revived the weekly service from April 2, 2011, with Boeing 747-400 freighters from Jade Cargo, and this will again boost the airport's statistics from this month.
