Apr 12, 2011 (newstodate): The latest traffic figures from the Latvian carrier airBaltic confirm the crucial importance of fleet planning.
In this year's first quarter, January-March 2011, the carrier saw passenger volumes down by four percent, y-o-y, to 559,078 passengers.
In the same period, the volume of flights increased by four percent, to 12,166 flight operations.
But the cabin factor was nonetheless up by two percent, y-o-y, to 62 percent!
-This is excellent proof of the rise in efficiency from the introduction of our new Bombardier Q400 aircraft, says Janis Vanags, airBaltic VP Corporate Communications.
-Replacing the larger Boeing 737 with the Q400 aircraft on many routes and flights has raised the efficiency of our services and optimized the use of the capacity invested on the routes.
airBaltic now operates a fleet of eight Bombardier Q400 and has long been expected to announce its decision on the future replacement of the 14 Boeing 737 Classic aircraft currently in the fleet.
