Apr 12, 2011 (newstodate): Since the first flight on April 2, 2011, Jade Cargo is now online at Lithuania's Kaunas Airport with a weekly flight from Shanghai.
-The first two operations with Jade Cargo's Boeing 747-400F have performed absolutely smoothly, on time and fully booked from China, and with a turn-around time of two hours, says Martynas Smitas, Hoptrans general manager that is behind the traffic.
-According to our contract with Jade Cargo, we will meet after Q2 to assess the results of the operation and secure its continuation, but is certainly looks very promising.
-The Chinese imports flown into Kaunas are next transferred unto our own road feeder service distributing cargo within a 1,000 km range that includes destinations in the Baltic region, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Germany.
Last year, Hoptrans opened traffic on this concept using an IL-96-400T freighter from Polet Airlines offering 80 tonnes of capacity, so the new service even offers around 20-25 tonnes of additional capacity per flight.
Hoptrans' contract with Jade Cargo covers the Shanghai-Kaunas leg only, leaving Jade Cargo free to transfer the aircraft to any other destinations after Kaunas Airport.
Hoptrans is, however, also considering the future addition of European export cargo for China on flights from Kaunas Airport.
