Apr 29, 2011 (newstodate): Icelandair retains five Boeing 757-200 freighters in its fleet - but not for own operations, exclusively.
One or two freighters are operated in the Icelandic market, calling East Midlands five times per week, Liege eight times weekly, New York JFK as well as Humberside once weekly.
Besides, Icelandair Cargo's freighters also call irregularly at destinations like Billund and Norrkoping.
However, as the carrier's passenger route network has grown significantly in the past few years, Icelandair Cargo now relies more on belly space, giving Icelandair Cargo the option to lease freighters for other projects.
Icelandair Cargo's freighter are thus also used by DHL at Leipzig as well as for TNT in Liege.
-Summing up, we utilize our freighters in Europe both for ACMI and for our own projects for the Icelandic market as well as for charter flights to various destinations in the world, says Mikael Tal Gretarsson, Icelandair Cargo.
