Apr 04, 2011 (newstodate): Finnair has decided on its plan to drastically downsize its subsidiary, Finnair Technical Services.
The aim is to discontinue unprofitable repair and overhaul, mainly offered to external companies, leading to a reduction in staff by 450 people, of which just under 100 may be implemented through business transfers.
As part of the planned restructuring, Finnair Technical Services Oy and Finland Transval Oy have today signed a letter of intent on a possible transfer of business of Finnair Technical Services' Helsinki-Vantaa warehouse services, staffed by some 75 people.
Finnair Technical Services, specializing in aircraft and component repair and overhaul as well as in engine and landing gear repair and overhaul, currently has 1,600 employees.
Among the airlines customers so far with Finnair Technical Services are TUIfly Nordic's Boeing 757 aircraft and the daily line maintenance in Helsinki for the customer's Boeing 757 and B767 aircraft fleet, as well as Lufthansa Cargo's MD-11F for airframe maintenance, Novair's three Airbus A321 aircraft, and Iberia Maintenance and Lot.
