Apr 04, 2011 (newstodate): Raising its voice on facebook, the Estonian market is yearning for direct air connections to Turkey.
-Estonia is a small market, indeed, but I believe that Estonians would be happy to travel with Turkish Airlines directly to Turkey and other destinations in the Middle East, Asia, North Africa via Istanbul, instead of flying via somewhere in Europe, says Vahur Luhtsalu, an Estonian citizen and a former Estonian diplomat in Turkey.
-Also, arrivals from Turkey are increasing steadily because of tourism, business and studying abroad. As members of Ural-Altaic language family, Estonians and Turks are distant language relatives, political relations are very good, intense and high profile and economical cooperation is on rise.
-Tallinn, this year's European Capital of Culture, introduced itself culturally in Istanbul last year. So there is considerable amount of sympathy towards each other on both sides.
-However, it seems that time is not yet ripe to open new non-stop flight between Istanbul and Tallinn. But we stay hopeful anyhow, says Mr Luthsalu.
Today, the shortest connection from Tallinn to Istanbul is provided by the Latvian carrier airBaltic via Riga.
